Have Confidence in your Confidence

So, along with upping my writing, during my year off, I've also been making great use of the 'holds' system at the library. Any best seller - with a little bit of patience, will be delivered to your home branch, giving you three glorious weeks to read it, or, if need be, to book it out all over again. Downside - if you go overboard on placing holds, they may all come in at once, which is why on my last trip, I had eleven (11) exciting books waiting for me!

One of those books was The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance - What Women Should Know, but Katty Kay and Claire Shipman.

This is a fascinating book that looks at many faucets of what it takes to be confident and the different environmental and even scientific factors that are at play in your confidence levels. They also explore the gender divide in things like self worth and people pleasing.

The key takeaway for me: "Confidence is the stuff that turns thoughts into action." The more we act, the more confident we will get. A lot of our fears come from the unknown, and the sheer act of completing tasks will make them more known and less scary for a repeat performance. We will also learn so much more by doing (and yes, sometimes failing) than by rumination or wonder. As they say in the book, "Maybe Nike has it right. At some point we have to stop thinking, and just do it." Lets do this!
